Breasts, Part-Objects of The Natural Body
Plaster Sculptures & Composite Woven Fabric, 2022
Under China’s millennium-old traditional culture and patriarchal society, women have gradually lost control over their own identities and bodies. How to escape the perverted rules and definitions of identity dictated by men? How to achieve female self-awakening? The work explores the breast (part-objects), one of the most representative sexual organs of the female body, and deeply explores women’s self-thinking, self-reflection, and self-redemption after long-term body criticism. Meanwhile, using reinvented fabrics as fetish symbols, this work publicly displays all types of natural breasts that violate the perfection perceived in the male gaze, challenging the boundaries of taboos, getting rid of moral shackles, and pursuing the true self.
“Our own body could be considered, from a topological point-of-view, a landscape with mounds and valleys and caves and holes. So it seems rather evident to me that our body is a figuration that appears in Mother Earth.”
Louise Bourgeois
